ABP's computer-based melt processor: PRODAPT®-MD

PRODAPT - MD: Furnace Overview

ABP offers for their induction furnaces the melt processor PRODAPT®-MD.

The melt processor PRODAPT®-MD has been developed for operating and monitoring the furnace during the melting cycle and serves as a control system for the melting process of the induction furnace.

The system includes the following functions:

  • Start-up (e.g. at the beginning of the week)
  • Sintering after relining
  • Melting down with/without heel
  • Superheating
  • Holding of molten metal
  • Holding the crucible at temperature by induction using a sinter cylinder
  • Recording of production data and trouble signalization; measuring value detection (recorder function)
  • Possibility of connecting a TeleService
  • Crucible monitoring system INTEGRAL
PRODAPT - MD: Crucible Monitoring System INTEGAL

Crucible monitoring system INTEGRAL:
The crucible is subject to wear and has to be replaced periodically. The criteria for the time of crucible replacement is the remaining wall-thickness of the crucible. It has to be measured and compared to minimal acceptable wall-thickness. Target of this action is to prevent the furnace of uncontrolled bursts and to make the replacement when the furnace is not in operation. The disadvantage of this method of measurement is, that it needs a lot of time and the crucible has to be cold.

PRODAPT - MD supports the operator in monitoring the crucible's wear by using included function 'crucible monitoring system INTEGRAL'. INTEGRAL creates a diagram of the wear, by measuring certain electrical values (active power, furnace voltage, frequency) of the converter/furnace automatically at the end of each charge. These measured values are related to the furnace data and stored. To achieve a good correlation between the stored measurements with the crucible's wear, the values are measured at a defined time at the end of a charge under almost equal conditions.
