Successful Steel Day in Dortmund

From June 29th to 30th 2012 ABP Induction Systems GmbH held a Conference including Workshops on “Steelmaking with Induction Furnaces”. The event took place in ABP’s own factory in Dortmund – Germany.

Approx. 55 participants from 29 companies and 14 countries attended the occasion. Among the participants were ABP customers and partners which are well known through out the worldwide steel market.

The successful usage of Induction Furnaces in the Steelmaking process as an economical and technological alternative to the electrical arc furnace was the main topic of the event, but also the supplementation in existing steel plants using induction furnaces with different annual production rates.

The Conference gave customers and partners the chance to report about their own experiences with induction furnaces by melting of shredded steel scrap, DRI and Ferro Alloys, exchange their gained know how and discuss about further development strategies in this field.

Topics like refractory requirements, refractory handling as well the state of the art for scrap charging were discussed during the workshop.

During the event all attendants had the opportunity to visit ABP’s factory and to see large crucible induction furnaces for steel production such 2 x IFM 9/30 t/16 MW TP), 2 x IFM 9/35 t/24 MW and IFM 11/65 t/42 MW

In the evening all participants had the opportunity to continue with discussions during a relaxing dinner.

Due to the over whelming  positive feedback, ABP can summarize that the event was successful in regard to fruitful discussions with a view to necessary future developments.

The next workshop is under planning for October 2013 together with the 17th ABP Customer Conference in Dortmund.
